Xie Xiaosi (1905-2008), a native of Guiyang, Guizhou, was a famous calligrapher and painter in Suzhou. He used to be the director of the Suzhou Municipal Garden Renovation Committee. In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, he planned and presided over the rescue, restoration and protection of Suzhou's classical gardens, sparing no effort and achieving outstanding results.
