 Zeng Guofan (1811-1872), formerly known as Zicheng, Zi Disheng, No. Bohan, was a native of Xiangxiang, Hunan Province. In the eighteenth year of Daoguang (1838), he became a scholar and a university scholar. He was a heavy minister of the late Qing Dynasty, the founder and commander of the Xiang Army, and a military strategist, a physicist, a politician, a calligrapher, and a literary scholar.
