Suzhou gardens can be traced back to the Spring and Autumn Period, developed in the Jin and Tang dynasties, prospered in the two Song dynasties, flourished in the Ming and Qing dynasties, and basically produced simultaneously with the ancient city of Suzhou that was founded more than 2,500 years ago. There are about 1,000 gardens recorded in local documents in the past dynasties, of which nearly 800 are more detailed, which are widely distributed in the urban and rural areas of Suzhou. As for the small courtyards of private houses that only chisel a pond, point peaks, and a few flowers and trees, there are countless of them. It is this practice of gardening for thousands of years that has gradually formed the artistic style of Suzhou gardens. [Original text ]
